Juan Pablo Montoya has captured the pole position for Sunday's AMP Energy Juice 500 at Talladega Superspeedway with a lap of 184.640 miles per hour.

It was Montoya's third pole of the year. He also won the top starting spots at New Hampshire and Indianapolis in July.

"We always run really good here," Montoya said afterwards. "We always have good race cars. Right now, (we'll) get ourselves a good pit stall for the race and then see what happens. We'll be ok. Talladega is more about how the car is going to be in the draft and everything. We came with the same thing we had here in the spring, we ran really well. Both (Earnhardt Ganassi) cars ran really well."

Clint Bowyer won the second starting spot with a lap of 184.498 mph. Kurt Busch was third, followed by the unlikely Joe Nemechek and Jeff Gordon.

Dale Earnhardt Jr. qualified sixth, followed by some other lesser-ranked drivers, including Dave Blaney in seventh, Ryan Newman, Casey Mears and Sam Hornish Jr.

Legendary NASCAR Executive Jim Hunter Dies

NASCAR Vice President of Corporate Communications Jim Hunter died Friday night in Daytona Beach after a year-long battle with cancer.

Almost always seen wearing a NASCAR #48 ball cap -- referencing the sport's 1948 beginnings -- Hunter was a legendary figure in the sport, having worked as a racing journalist, public relations specialist, president of Darlington Raceway and ultimately as a top executive with the sanctioning body during a 40-year career with NASCAR.

(He's pictured at Darlington Raceway in 2008 with the Charlotte Observer's Jim Utter, at left, and Sirius NASCAR Radio's Claire B. Lang, right).

"Jim Hunter was one of NASCAR's giants,'' NASCAR Chairman Brian France said. "For more than 40 years Jim was part of NASCAR and its history. He loved the sport but loved the people even more.

"It seems as if everyone in the sport called him a friend. Jim will forever be missed by the NASCAR community.''

Tim Richmond Documentary Airs Tuesday Night on ESPN

In another of ESPN Film's Emmy-worthy installments of its documentary series "30 for 30," the network on Tuesday night gives us a moving and informative look at the life of former star NASCAR Cup Series driver Tim Richmond, who died in 1989 of complications from AID at the age of only 34.

Using the right blend of classic race footage and emotional interviews, the hour-long film gives an in-depth look at NASCAR's original rebel, the driver who gave Dale Earnhardt fits on track and puzzled the "Good Ol' Boy" garage, which wasn't sure what to make of this glam-kid from the Midwest.

As his former team owner Rick Hendrick and contemporaries such as Darrell Waltrip tell it, Richmond had more talent than he could harness. And Richmond enjoyed every bit of his success -- perhaps to a fault. The film, with emotional interviews from Richmond's sister, lets you decide.

This is a must-see for the massive legions of new NASCAR fans who started tuning into the sport only in the last decade. And it's sure to be an emotional trip down memory lane for those who remember Richmond's spunk, talent and personality.

It's interesting and compelling television whether you're a NASCAR fan or not.

The show begins at 8 p.m. (ET) Tuesday.

DuPont extends Gordon?s relationship

Despite scaling back on their sponsorship of Jeff Gordon and Hendrick Motorsports, DuPont announced on Thursday a new three-year deal with the four-time champion. DuPont, one of the companies with the longest standing relationships with Hendrick Motorsports and also the longest association with a current Sprint Cup series driver, will feature as the main sponsor of the #24 Chevrolet in 14 races per season for the next three years.

Hendrick, Gordon Confirm Three-Year AARP Sponsorship

CONCORD, N.C. (AP) -- Rick Hendrick never panicked as the season stretched on and he still didn't have a sponsorship deal for Jeff Gordon.

Why? Because he always had a contingency plan to fall back on. It gave him the ability to be discerning when it came to the four-time NASCAR champion.

Then came the potential pairing with the AARP Foundation, which began talks on a sponsorship program with Hendrick Motorsports in September. The deal quickly fell into place, and the foundation's "Drive to End Hunger" campaign was announced Wednesday as Gordon's primary sponsor for the next three years.

"We had a deal in our pocket. It was a verbal agreement," Hendrick said of the second suitor, which he refused to identify. "But this one came only faster, quicker and had more potential."

More potential for both sides.

CONCORD, N.C. -- Jamie McMurray battled past Kyle Busch on the final restart of the Bank of America 500 Saturday night at Charlotte Motor Speedway and won his third race of the year, stealing the thunder of the drivers in the Chase for the Sprint Cup championship.

McMurray added the Charlotte fall race to his impressive non-Chase record of 2010, which also includes victories in the Daytona 500 and the Brickyard 400.

Busch finished second after dominating the race and leading 217 of the 334 laps. But Busch had to hold off a determined challenge in the final laps from Jimmie Johnson, who finished third.

Johnson's finish gave him a 41-point lead over Denny Hamlin at the halfway point in the Chase for the Sprint Cup championship.

Denny Hamlin finished fourth, followed by Greg Biffle.

"As I was catching Kyle at the end of the race, when the caution came out, I really wasn't sure whether we had enough speed to outrun him the last 25 or 30 laps," McMurray said. "But the car was unbelievable those last 25 or 30 laps, it was effortless to drive and it had a lot of speed."

We have to admit that we're more than a little excited about the upcoming Green Hornet movie. Aside from being one of the most awesome comic-book heroes ever to grace the pages of pulp, the crime-fighting guru of the series spends his vigilante nights tangoing with both the law and various shady characters from behind the wheel of a heavily modified Chrysler Imperial. Justice, thy name is body-on-frame.

To make the movie, workers constructed a total of 29 1964-1966 Imperials for various portions of filming and stunt work, and the producers have just released a quick video giving us all a quick behind the scenes look at the building the Black Beauty. There are even a few quick action shots taken from the movie thrown in for good measure. The Green Hornet is slated to hit theaters next year, so if you've got an old Imperial languishing in the back yard, now's the time to get that thing running. Report: Jeff Gordon's New Sponsorship Deal to Be Announced Wednesday

The AARP Foundation and Jeff Gordon will team up in 2011, with the charity arm of the retired persons organization becoming the primary sponsor on Gordon's No. 24 Chevrolet for most of the NASCAR Sprint Cup races to promote a major anti-hunger campaign, the Charlotte Observer reported Monday.

The paper reported that the campaign will be coordinated by the foundation and will eventually involve other companies.

The new deal, however, doesn't mean that fans will no longer see Gordon's longtime primary sponsors, Dupont and Pepsi, on his No. 24 Chevrolet. Those two powerhouse companies are expected to sponsor the races that AARP Foundation doesn't cover, the Observer said.

More details of the sponsorship are expected to be announced at a Wednesday news conference.

Dupont is one of NASCAR's longest-running and most dedicated sponsors.

If Dupont steps away completely from some of the 2011 races, it will be the first time since the company began sponsoring Gordon beginning with his very first race at Atlanta at the end of 1992.

Vettel will not be given support role

Red Bull will not ask Sebastian Vettel to play a supporting role in Mark Webber's quest to win the Formula 1 World Championship title, despite the German's own chances slimming when he suffered an engine failure in the Korean Grand Prix. Vettel was forced to retire from the lead of the race, and whereas victory would have given him the world championship lead, he is now fourth in the standings, 25 points behind Fernando Alonso and 14 behind team-mate Webber. But Red Bull team principal Christian Horner said it was too early for Vettel to give up on his own challenge, and that things could turn around quickly just as they had in Yeongam - where Webber began the race as the points leader before crashing out.

Considering Denny Hamlin's record at Martinsville Speedway -- two straight victories and three wins in the last five races -- you wouldn't think he'd be too worried about whether he could hold onto the pole position for Sunday's Tums Fast Relief 500 after posting the fastest lap in his qualifying run Friday.

But winning the pole means getting the pick of the pit stalls, and at Martinsville the best one is first in line, right behind the exit line of the pits.

So as Hamlin waited nervously in the lounge of his team transporter while the rest of the field took their runs, he was. . . well, let's let him describe it in his usual frank manner: "I wasn't wishing bad luck," he said, "but I was just like, 'Slip, slip, slip, slip.'

"It came true for us. We've had to work extra hard today because we have worked just on qualifying."

The pole position at this tight, half-mile short track was "objective number one" for Hamlin and he and his team devoted all of practice to the qualifying setup.

Simbol Design's Lavazza GTX-R slaps a Lego-ized version of the Ferrari Enzo's snout on an otherwise Pagani Zonda-like body made of carbon-Kevlar built atop a tubular steel frame. And since German powerplants have emerged as the new crate engine of choice for niche manufacturers from Spyker and Wiesmann to Gumpert and Pagani, the Lavazza packs a BMW-sourced 5.4-liter V12, picking up Lamborghini's tractor-origins mantle with an electro-pneumatic transmission reportedly sourced from a bus. Sources differ on the engine's output - alternately claiming 489 horsepower or 620 - but either way, 0-60 mph times quoted around the four-and-a-half second sound conservative.

Both coupe and roadster bodystyles are apparently in the works, though there's no word on availability or pricing just yet. Either way, check out the high-resolution images in the gallery below and a video of this supercar mashup after the jump.

Danica Patrick Confirms Partial NASCAR Schedule for 2011

CONCORD, N.C. -- Danica Patrick made it official Friday afternoon here at Charlotte Motor Speedway that she will again run a partial NASCAR Nationwide Series schedule along with her full-time job competing in the IZOD IndyCar Series.

While all the specifics have yet to be worked out, she could run up to 14 Nationwide Series races that wouldn't conflict with the IndyCar schedule or other contractual obligations.

Her JR Motorsports team did confirm she will compete in first four races of the 2011 season -- at Daytona, Phoenix, Las Vegas and Bristol, Tenn., where she will compete for the first time on the challenging half-mile track.

Until the IndyCar Series confirms its final race of the season, JR Motorsports team isn't ready to release her exact stock car schedule in the No. 7 GoDaddy.com Chevrolet.

"It's a very similar framework to this year based on my contract and what's available (on the schedule),'' Patrick said before heading out to the 1.5-mile Charlotte oval to qualify for Friday night's Nationwide race.

"I'm really excited.''

The 2011 Aston Martin V12 Vantage sits up near the top of the 'ole Autoblog must-drive car list. While we wait for the day that someone hands us a crystal 'Emotion Control Unit' to fire one up, we can sit back and live vicariously through Jay Leno. Mr. Leno recently got to spend some time with the British sports coupe and was kind enough to capture his experience on camera.

Leno remarks that the V12 Vantage is "almost the perfect combination of hardcore track sports car and GT car." To prove that, he turns the camera over to his tame racing driver, Justin Bell, who brings the car to Willow Springs and puts it through its paces.
